Chapter 21
33 "Listen to another parable: There was a householder who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. He leased it to farmers and went away." 34 But when the time of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers to receive his fruits. 35 And the farmers, having taken his servants, one they beat, one they killed, and one they stoned. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first ones, and they did the same to them. 37 But later he sent his son to them, saying, "They will respect my son." 38 But when the farmers saw the son, they said among themselves, "This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance." 39 So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. 40 When the owner of the vineyard comes, therefore, what will he do to those farmers? 41 They said to him, “He will destroy bad men badly, and he will lease the vineyard to other tenant farmers, who will give back to him the fruits in their seasons.” 42 Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this came from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?" 43 For this reason I say to you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing its fruits. 44 The one who falls on this stone will be crushed; but on whomever it falls, it will winnow him. 45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them. 46 And seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, since they held him to be a prophet.
